About the Role
The Consultant Paediatrician is responsible for providing specialist medical care to newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. The role involves diagnosing and treating a wide range of childhood illnesses, managing both inpatient and outpatient services, providing emergency paediatric care, promoting preventive healthcare, supervising junior medical staff, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Requirements
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide specialist consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for paediatric patients from birth to adolescence.
Conduct outpatient clinics and manage inpatient admissions.
Attend to paediatric emergencies, including neonatal and childhood emergencies.
Develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based medical practice.
Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as required.
Perform or supervise paediatric procedures within the scope of practice.
Provide neonatal resuscitation and newborn care.
Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary clinical meetings.
Refer patients appropriately for specialized investigations or interventions.
Ensure accurate documentation of clinical findings, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up plans.
Preventive and Community Healthcare
Promote childhood immunization and preventive healthcare programs.
Provide growth and developmental assessments.
Educate parents and caregivers on child nutrition, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyles.
Participate in community outreach and child health awareness programs.
Leadership and Supervision
Supervise Medical Officers, Resident Doctors, House Officers, Interns, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals within the paediatric department.
Mentor junior doctors and medical students.
Participate in departmental teaching and continuing medical education (CME).
Contribute to policy development and implementation within the department.
Quality Assurance
Maintain high standards of patient safety and clinical governance.
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and ethical standards.
Report clinical incidents and participate in morbidity and mortality reviews.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records.
Participate in departmental meetings and hospital committees.
Prepare medical reports, referrals, and discharge summaries.
Assist in developing departmental budgets, staffing plans, and service improvements.
